About Professor Adam

A distinguished polymer chemist, inventor and educator whose career bridges fundamental research, university teaching and large-scale industrial innovation.

Biography

Professor Georgius Abidal Adam is a Professor of Polymer Chemistry and Technology and an Adjunct (Honorary) Professor at four leading Australian universities: the University of Sydney, Western Sydney University (WSU), the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).

He received his B.Sc. in Chemistry (First Honours) from Baghdad University in 1971, and his Ph.D. in Industrial Chemistry — the chemistry and technology of polymers — from the University of Birmingham, England, in 1975.

Over a career spanning several decades he has devoted his work to the preparation and evaluation of new, tailor-made polymers for a wide range of industrial applications. He has supervised 49 Master's theses and 28 PhD theses, published more than 250 papers in outstanding journals and conferences, and authored five textbooks in fields including industrial chemistry, polymer chemistry and technology, and chemical hazards & environmental pollution.

His inventive output comprises 46 filed inventions — including 28 granted USA patents — together with 37 registered national (IQ) patents. The majority of these inventions have been implemented industrially and commercialised as marketed products.
